Didi E-Rickshaw Sahayata Yojana’ changed Annu’s fate
Raipur. Annu Sahu’s husband was ill and unable to work, while Annu’s income as a domestic worker was not enough to support her family. When an atmosphere of despair prevailed in her house, Annu decided that she would have to turn to some other profession. Annu drives her e-rickshaw in the streets of Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh, people watch her carefully. Amidst the light cold breeze and the noise of the streets, Annu moves forward confidently and does not look back.
Annu started working as a domestic worker after completing her studies till class 12. But this work was not earning enough. In the settlements of Rajnandgaon, where Annu lived, fellow laborers often shared their experiences. Annu listened carefully, always ready to know ways to improve the financial condition of her family.
A major turning point in Annu’s life came when she heard about the Didi E-Rickshaw Sahayata Yojana of the Labour Department. This scheme gives women an opportunity for economic independence by providing them financial assistance to purchase e-rickshaws. Annu grabbed the opportunity with both hands. With the help of the District Labour Officer, Annu quickly completed the application process, collected the required documents and submitted her application. When her application was approved, Annu tasted success and economic independence for the first time.
Annu took a bold step to secure her family’s future by working as an e-rickshaw driver. Soon her income became regular, and now she is earning Rs 20 to 25 thousand every month. Which was almost four times her previous income. She set an example by becoming a source of inspiration for her children. This led to tremendous improvement in the financial condition of the family and the average family income reached Rs 40 to 45 thousand per month.
Annu’s journey highlights the importance of social security programs. When designed in a flexible and responsive manner, these schemes can address the diverse risks faced by marginalised communities, helping build sustainable livelihoods. Annu’s story is testimony to how targeted interventions can enable individuals to transform their lives and secure a brighter future for their families.
