Dhamtari: Keeping in mind the falling groundwater level in the country, state and district, the district administration is organizing many public awareness programs for water and environmental conservation. One of these is to motivate people to adopt crop cycle change to conserve water and maintain the fertility of the land. While the district administration organized Jal Jagar Mahotsav for water conservation in every village of Dhamtari district, crop cycle change camps were also organized to adopt pulses, oilseeds and cash crops instead of summer paddy. As a result, the villagers of Parasatrai, Loharsi, Ranwa, Gujra, Gohananala and Bagdehi of the district convened a meeting of the Gram Vikas Samiti and decided to take pulses, oilseeds and cash crops instead of summer paddy and discourage paddy.
So far, crop cycle change camps have been organized in 182 villages by the agriculture and related departments in the district, while special camps were organized in 48 villages. Along with this, special activities were organized in 5 villages through RAWE (Rural Agricultural Work Experience). More than 12 thousand four hundred farmers participated in this and made the villagers aware. Apart from this, the students of the College of Agriculture and Horticulture also visited the villages and informed the farmers about the benefits of pulses, oilseeds and cash crops. So far, 3 thousand 188 quintal 59 kg of seeds have been distributed to the farmers for the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds in the Rabi year 2024-25 in the district. These include one thousand eight quintal eight kilograms from the committee, one thousand 874 quintal 51 kilograms from Beejgram / Demonstration and 306 quintals of seeds for cash. Whereas in the Rabi year 2023-24, only 38 quintal 65 kilograms of pulses and oilseeds seeds were distributed by the committees. In this way, this year there has been an increase in the distribution of pulses and oilseeds seeds from the committees for the Rabi crop. It is worth noting that this year a target has been set to adopt crop rotation in about 25 thousand hectares of area in the district.
Under the Rabi loan distribution year 2024-25, a total loan of 6 crore 72 lakh 8 thousand rupees was distributed to two thousand 602 members through all the 11 committees of the district. Out of these, 6 crore 60 lakh 5 thousand rupees were distributed in cash and 12 lakh 3 thousand rupees in the form of material. Let us tell you that the district administration is constantly advising the farmers to make good use of water. Local villagers are also participating in it enthusiastically to prevent the horror of water in summers.
