Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Arrest News
In recent news, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken a significant step in his legal battle by moving the Supreme Court to challenge a verdict by the Delhi High Court. The High Court had upheld his arrest in connection to a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise scam. This move comes at a crucial time, just before the Lok Sabha elections, adding to the political drama surrounding Kejriwal.
Kejriwal’s legal representative, Vivek Jain, confirmed that they have filed a petition in the apex court, contesting the Delhi High Court’s decision. The High Court’s ruling maintaining Kejriwal’s arrest has dealt a serious blow to the Chief Minister. The court noted that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) felt compelled to proceed with the arrest due to Kejriwal’s repeated failure to respond to summons and his refusal to cooperate with the investigation.
In the midst of these legal proceedings, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced that Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh had plans to visit Kejriwal at Tihar Jail. However, this visit has been postponed due to security concerns cited by the jail authorities.
According to AAP sources, the jail administration received a letter requesting the meeting with CM Kejriwal. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Tihar Jail is expected to respond, addressing security measures and suggesting alternative dates for the visit. Once the new schedule is proposed, Sanjay Singh and CM Bhagwant Mann may proceed with their visit to Kejriwal.
Kejriwal’s arrest on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate stems from allegations related to the excise scam. Since then, he has remained under the authority of the ED before being transferred to Tihar Jail.
This legal battle and its surrounding developments have captured significant attention, not only for their impact on Kejriwal and the AAP but also for their broader implications on the political landscape, particularly as the Lok Sabha elections loom closer.
