Bhopal: An activity “Sambhavana” focused on dance, singing and playing is being organized in Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum, in which on August 10, Agnesh Kerketta and companions, Bhopal presented Oraon tribal dance Sarhul and Umashankar Namdev and companions, Damoh presented Rai dance. Agnesh Kerketta and companions, Bhopal presented Oraon tribal dance Sarhul. Among the tribes of Madhya Pradesh, Oraon tribe lives around Jashpur tehsil of Raigarh district. Sarhul is the most famous dance of Oraon tribes. Oraon tribe considers Shal Sarai tree as the abode of their village deity, hence once a year on the full moon day of Chaitra month, they worship the Shal tree and dance around the Shal tree. A flag of white cloth is hoisted on the Shal tree. Sarhul is a group dance in which young men and women and adult Oraons participate. In the dance, the footsteps are not on the musical beats but on the rhythm and beats of the songs. The dance starts at a slow pace and ends at a very fast pace. In this dance, male dancers wear a special type of turban and women put a white crest of heron feather in their hair. The clothes of the dancers are usually white. The main instruments of Sarhul dance are Mandar, Cymbals and Nagada. At some places, Chaumukh Chakol is also played.

Umashankar Namdev and his companions, Damoh presented the Rai dance. The ethnic tradition of Bundelkhand region is basically based on bravery and makeup. It is not without reason that on one hand, there is rapid physical agility, rhythmic arrangement of speed, body, postures and grouping in the famous folk dance of Bundelkhand, Rai, and on the other hand, there is inclusion of the dance’s lasya and planning of bold makeup-related meanings in the form of folk poetry. Energy, power and grace are one in it. This dance has not been limited to the status of a stage dance in Bundelkhand. Rather, in remote rural areas, organizing a Rai dance is considered a matter of prestige at the time of birth of a child and on the occasion of marriage. Many times, Rai dances are organized on the completion of a desired task or on a vow. Rai is like a live artistic contribution. An inseparable part of life in which the free expression of joy appears like the life force of man. In the activity organized every Sunday at 2 pm in the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum complex, along with the presentation of various art traditions of five localities and seven major tribes of Madhya Pradesh, the general public will also get an opportunity to see and understand the art forms of other states of the country.
