Cooler Weather in Uttarakhand Thanks to Rain, But Farmers Hit Hard – Check What’s Coming

Uttarakhand Weather News: The weather took a turn in Uttarakhand on Wednesday, giving people some relief from the rising heat. Even today, many parts of the state are expected to see rainfall. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for this. Apart from that, a yellow alert has been announced for plains districts like Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, warning of rain and strong winds. According to the weather department, due to the fresh western disturbance becoming active, the weather is likely to stay unstable over the next few days, and a drop in temperature is also expected. An orange alert for rain has been issued for several areas including Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Bageshwar, Almora, Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, and Champawat, along with other districts in the Kumaon region. Late Wednesday evening, places like Almora saw heavy hail and rain. While this sudden change in weather brought relief from the heat, it also damaged crops and vegetables in many areas. The agriculture and horticulture departments have started assessing the losses. On the other hand, the rain has helped control forest fires. Even on Thursday morning, the sky stayed cloudy. In the valley areas, fog hung around till late morning. The sudden change in weather has led to a noticeable drop in temperature.

Some areas in Tehri district experienced hailstorms on Wednesday. Rain was also reported in Srinagar, Uttarkashi, Champawat, and Pithoragarh. People in Chamoli and Uttarkashi had a tough time dealing with the aftermath of heavy rain. The Tharali region in Chamoli was hit the hardest. Several villages in Tharali witnessed chaos due to the downpour. Along with Tharali tehsil, villages like Gwaldam, Dungri, Talwadi, and Kulsari saw intense rainfall. In Tharali market, the rain-swollen drain overflowed, bringing along a heavy load of debris. Many vehicles got stuck under the mud and rubble. Just three hours of rain caused havoc in the area. In the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, heavy rainclouds poured down. In Berinag (Pithoragarh district), hail badly damaged fruits and crops. In several areas, crops were completely destroyed by the hailstorm. The weather department also mentioned that some places might experience thunderstorms and lightning. Winds may blow at speeds of 50 to 70 kilometers per hour. In Dehradun, light clouds are hovering today, giving some relief from the heat and humidity.
