Congress furious over delay in Panchayat elections, warned the government of agitation

Uttarakhand politics is heated up these days over Panchayat elections. Congress has accused the government of deliberately not conducting three-tier Panchayat elections. The party says that this is not only against democracy, but it has completely stopped development at the Panchayat level.

In clear words, Congress accused the state government of conspiring to weaken the Panchayat system. Doiwala Block Congress Committee meeting was held at Simlasgrant, where Parwanoo District President Mohit Uniyal said that the government is trying to suppress the voice of the people by postponing the Panchayat elections. He said that the real power of democracy reaches every village, and Panchayat elections are a part of it. But if elections are not held on time, then Congress will take to the streets.

It was decided in the meeting that if the elections are not announced soon, the Block Congress Committee will start a fierce agitation. The workers said that such tampering with the democratic system will not be tolerated.

We will take our message to every village through street meetings, will raise public issues

The Congress leaders present in the meeting also said that the party will now go to every village through street meetings and directly communicate with the public. People will be explained why panchayat elections are necessary and why the government is postponing them.

Parwadun Congress District President Mohit Uniyal said that in today’s time, issues like inflation, unemployment and corruption are affecting the public the most. But instead of paying attention to these, the government is weakening the local democracy. Congress will run an awareness campaign on all these issues and will tell the people how their voice is being suppressed.

It was decided in the program that small street meetings will be organized in every village, in which there will be direct communication with the public. During this, along with the demand for panchayat elections, issues like local development, unemployment of youth and corruption will also be raised vigorously.

The agitation over the Doiwala-Dudhli road forced the government to bow down
During the meeting, Congress leaders discussed another important issue – the approval of the Doiwala to Dudhli road. Congress and regional public representatives had earlier organized a big agitation over this road and even gheraoed the Vidhan Sabha. Due to this public pressure, the government finally had to approve this road.

PCC member Gaurav Chaudhary said that this victory was not only of the Congress, but of the people of Dudhli and Markhamgrant area. This is an example that when the voice of the public is raised unitedly, the government also has to listen.

Through this example, the Congress warned the government that if the Panchayat elections are not announced soon, then similar public movements will be raised in the entire state. The leaders say that development has stopped in places like Doiwala because the Panchayats are not active. In the absence of Panchayats, local problems are constantly increasing.

‘Warning to the government – the movement will not stop now’, said the Block Congress leader
Doiwala Block Congress Executive President Umed Bora openly warned the government that there will be no more waiting. He said that the government should immediately announce the dates of the Panchayat elections or else the Congress workers are fully prepared for the movement.

Umed Bora said that postponing the Panchayat elections means – stopping democracy. Local level problems like water, road, sanitation, ration distribution etc. everything is done through the Panchayats. But when there are no elections, how will the Panchayats be formed? And when there are no Panchayats, how will the development work be done?
