Ujjain (Mahakaleshwar Temple): The tradition of offering cold water from earthen pots on the head of Lord Mahakal has started in Jyotirlinga Mahakal Temple from Vaishakh Krishna Pratipada. On Sunday morning at 6 o’clock, the priests invoked the holy rivers and tied a garland of 11 pots on the head of the Lord. In the famous Mangalnath temple of Ujjain, the tradition of tying Galantika has also been started to give coolness to Lord Mangalnath in the scorching heat of Vaishakh. Pt. Mahesh Pujari told that in the worship tradition of Mahakal temple, it is believed that there is extreme heat for two months from Pratipada of Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month to Jyeshtha Purnima. In these 60 days, there is a tradition of offering water from earthen pots on the head of Lord Mahakal to give him coolness.

Galantika is tied every day from 6 am to 4 pm for two months. It started on Sunday. The priests invoked the rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Kanwari, Narmada, Shipra and tied 11 urns of galantika in their name. Galantika tied after Panchamrit Puja Galantika was also tied at Mangalnath temple on Sunday, which is considered to be the birthplace of Mars. In the morning, the temple’s Gadipati Mahant Jitendra Bharti anointed the Lord with Panchamrit and offered rice to him. After this, Galantika was tied on the head of the Lord. Mahant Bharti told that Lord Mangalnath is called Angarakaya, that is, the god with brightness like embers. His nature is considered to be hot. Therefore, he is pleased by offering water, Panchamrit and cooked rice. In summers, offering things with cold fragrance, garlands of cold flowers etc. also has special significance.
