Chowpatty in Budha Talab…no parking space…pathway gone…and permission for liquor sale: Mayor Meenal Chaubey protested against the arbitrariness of the agency.

Tampering with the heritage of the city will not be tolerated!
Raipur, March 25, 2025 – Mayor Meenal Choubey arrived today to inspect the construction work of Chowpatty being done at Budha Talab. During this, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vishwadeep, MIC Member Manoj Verma and Ward Councilor Murali Sharma were also present. Let us tell you that Raipur Smart City Limited has transferred Budha Talab to the Tourism Board, under which Chowpatty is being constructed there through the agency. During this construction, the pathway has been broken, while no parking arrangement has been made. Local people allege that the agency is completely destroying the pond and making it a center of commercial profit only. The most opposition is being made to the fact that the agreement between the Tourism Board and the agency also discusses the permission for liquor sale in Chowpatty. Those protesting say that this will not only harm the historical and cultural importance of the pond, but it will also have an adverse effect on the educational institutions nearby.
The city’s oldest school, Dani Girls School, is located near Budha Talab, the main road of which passes near Chowpatty. In such a situation, if permission is given to sell liquor in Chowpatty, then the safety of the girl students and the education environment may be negatively affected. Mayor Meenal Chaubey took a tough stand on this issue and said, “The purpose of the tourism department is to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the city, not to make profits by commercializing them. There is a possibility of arbitrary action by the agency by misleading the department officials. Raipur city is ours. Dani School is the oldest school for the daughters of the city, where good education and values are given. Meenal Chaubey, local citizens and public representatives demand that the tourism department review this plan and preserve the traditional and historical identity of Budha Talab.
