New Delhi, 21 April 2025 – Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at North Block in New Delhi today. In the meeting chaired by Shah, the implementation of three new criminal laws in the state was reviewed. Along with this, there was also discussion on eradication of Naxalism, overall development of Bastar and further strengthening the security and justice system in the state. Many senior officials of the Union Home Ministry and the State Government including Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma were present in the meeting. The Indian Judicial Code, Indian Civil Defense Code and Indian Evidence Act were discussed in the meeting. Along with this, the implementation and current status of various new provisions related to police, jail, courts, prosecution and forensics were reviewed. Giving information in the meeting, Chief Minister Sai said that administrative and technical preparations have been completed to effectively implement the new criminal laws in Chhattisgarh. 27 types of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and guidelines have been prepared and implemented in the state. Along with this, about 37,385 policemen have been trained. Courts, police stations and jails have been equipped with e-evidence and video conferencing systems. So far 53,981 FIRs have been registered in the state under the new laws, out of which challans have been presented in about 50% of the cases.
Special strategies for a permanent solution to the Naxal problem were also discussed in the meeting. The Chief Minister said that in the operations conducted in the state in recent months, many wanted Naxalites have been killed, arrested or surrendered. Efforts like Niyad Nelanar Yojana, Bastar Olympics, Women Safety Center, and development of homestay and tourism infrastructure in tribal areas have had a meaningful impact on connecting the youth to the mainstream. The Chief Minister also informed that the state government is committed to make Chhattisgarh Naxal-free by the year 2026 and work is being done rapidly towards developing Bastar as a major tourist center of India. Chief Minister Sai also assured that Chhattisgarh will follow the guidelines of the Central Government with full sincerity and will play a leading role in effectively implementing this initiative of legal reform across the country. Appreciating the work done so far by the Chhattisgarh government regarding the implementation of new criminal laws, the Home Minister emphasized on 100 percent implementation of new laws in the state soon. Home Minister Amit Shah expected coordination and promptness from Chhattisgarh and said that the aim of the new laws is to make the justice process simpler, faster and more people-oriented. Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Pingua, Inspector General of Police Sushil Dwivedi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Subodh Kumar Singh, Secretary Rahul Bhagat, Principal Secretary Law Rajneesh Srivastava, Secretary Home, Mrs. Neha Champawat and other officials also attended the meeting.
