Champions Trophy 2025: In a recent media release, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the appointment of its Chief Operating Officer, Sumair Ahmed Syed, as the tournament director for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.With tensions escalating over the ICC Champions Trophy, the PCB has made a new announcement. In the media statement, the PCB reiterated its position that the tournament will only be held in Pakistan, despite the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suggesting a hybrid model for the event.The PCB recently informed the ICC that it will not back down from hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan, a decision that has the support of the country’s government. However, this decision has left the ICC in a bind, knowing that the tournament cannot proceed without the Indian team being part of it.
Given the political issues between the two countries, it is unlikely that the Indian team will be allowed to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The responsibility to find a solution to this complex issue now lies with the ICC. During the announcement of Sumair’s appointment as tournament director, the PCB also made it clear that it has no intention of moving towards a hybrid model under any circumstances.Regarding Sumair’s appointment, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated, “Sumair is an exceptionally organized professional with a wealth of administrative expertise. Under Sumair’s leadership, the global cricket community can be assured that this event will meet the highest standards synonymous with excellence in Pakistan.”
