Under the centrally funded Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme run by the Agriculture Department, farmers are insured in case of loss in notified Rabi crops (wheat irrigated, wheat non-irrigated, gram, mustard) due to local calamities like hailstorm, cloud burst, flood, fire caused by natural lightning. There is a provision to give compensation to farmers on the basis of their individual farm level. If there is loss in more than 25 percent area of any notified unit, then the district level joint committee will do a sample check and determine the compensation for the loss. On the instructions of Collector Shri Chandan Kumar, the Agriculture Department has advised all the field officers of the district to inspect the farmers’ fields and inform the insurance company immediately to compensate for the losses caused by hailstorm and untimely rains. HDFC has insured its crops under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme in Rabi crop 2023-24. You can complain by calling Ergo General Insurance Company Limited’s toll free number 1800-266-0700 or 14447 within the stipulated time limit of 72 hours along with the details of the insured crop, the reason for the damage along with the policy details in writing. Local Agriculture Officer/Office can give information within the time limit to Senior Agriculture Development Officer/Revenue, concerned bank, District Agriculture/Revenue Officer, due to which the company will conduct a survey, assess the crop damage and provide compensation amount. If, on the basis of crop harvesting experiments, the claim payment in the notified area is determined to be more than the local compensation, then the higher claim payable will be payable to the insured farmer.
Under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme, a claim amount of Rs 1 crore 70 lakh has been paid to 3528 farmers of the district in Kharif year 2022 and a claim amount of Rs 39 lakh 53 thousand has been paid to 301 farmers in Rabi 2022-23 by the insurance company. Deputy Director Agriculture Deepak Kumar Nayak has appealed to the farmers to immediately give information about the losses due to rain and hailstorm in the district in the past days to the insurance company through the toll free number given above as well as to the agricultural offices established at the development block and district level. And the benefit of insurance can be availed by giving written information through the Regional Rural Agricultural Extension Officer.
