Centre warns media to stop coverage of army operations in view of national security

The central government has now adopted a tough attitude regarding defense operations and activities of security forces. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory for all media channels, clearly stating that now no kind of army operation or movement of forces will be broadcast live. Ban on reporting of army operations The ministry has warned that coverage without permission can threaten the security of the country. The government has said that information about the ongoing operations against terrorism can only be given which is given from time to time through authorized officials. Earlier also, the ministry had ordered a ban on such broadcasts under the Cable Television Network (Amendment) Rules 2021. Advice issued for media channels The ministry has appealed to all media houses, digital platforms and journalists to be sensitive about national security, work responsibly and maintain high ethical standards. The government has taken this decision taking lessons from major incidents like Kargil war, 26/11 Mumbai attack and Kandahar plane hijacking. Also, the government has made it clear that if anyone breaks the rules, legal action can be taken against him.
