Canada Urges Caution for Citizens During India's Polls

Canada has updated its travel advice for people going to India. They’re saying to be careful because of some big events happening there called the Lok Sabha elections. These elections are scheduled from April 19 to June 1, 2024. Canada says there might be protests and disruptions during these elections, like traffic jams or curfews suddenly happening.

They’re also warning travelers to stay away from places where there are big crowds or protests going on. This advice is because last year, Canada and India had some problems after Canada’s Prime Minister talked about a sensitive issue in the Canadian Parliament. This made relations between the two countries tense.

Canada is also advising Canadians in specific cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Mumbai to be extra careful. They say to keep a low profile, not share personal info with strangers, and avoid crowded places, including public transport.

They’re also mentioning that in some cities, their in-person help services for Canadians might not be available right now. This is because of some diplomatic issues between Canada and India earlier. In October last year, there was a situation where a bunch of Canadian diplomats had to leave India because of a disagreement between the two countries.

So, basically, if you’re Canadian and planning to go to India, be cautious, stay away from protests, crowded places, and keep your travel plans safe and informed to someone you trust.
