Justin Trudeau, the leader of Canada, said that his government supports the rights of citizens to express themselves, even if it annoys the government of India. He mentioned this while talking about accusations of India interfering in Canada’s internal matters.
Trudeau highlighted the difference between his government and the previous one, saying that while the previous government had a close relationship with India, his government prioritizes defending minorities in Canada and their right to speak up, even if it upsets their home countries.
He mentioned his previous statement in the Canadian Parliament about credible allegations of Indian involvement in the killing of a pro-Khalistan figure in British Columbia. Trudeau emphasized that his government is committed to protecting the rights and freedoms of Canadians, including protecting them from interference or pressure from their former home countries.
Although much attention in the ongoing inquiry has been on China’s interference in Canadian elections, Trudeau pointed out that documents from intelligence agencies suggest that other countries like India, Russia, Iran, and Pakistan have also engaged in such activities.
