In Bhilai, the Smriti Nagar police have filed a case against Sameer Verma and Rahul Verma, who live in the Market Chowk area of Utai. They are accused of cheating and blackmailing a young woman. Initially, the two claimed that Sameer’s father was seriously ill and used this excuse to ask for money. After that, they continued to demand more money from the victim. When she said she couldn’t pay, they started blackmailing her with a nude video they had of her. Once her family found out about this, they immediately reported it to the police. The Smriti Nagar police have registered an FIR against the accused.
According to the police, Sameer Verma and the victim were acquaintances from school. On December 4, 2023, Sameer called her and said that his father had suffered a stroke and had a brain hemorrhage, asking for financial help for treatment. When she refused to send more money, Sameer’s older brother, Rahul, threatened her, saying that they had her nude video and would share it with her friends and family if she didn’t comply. This revelation shocked the young woman’s family, prompting them to file a complaint against the accused.
In another incident, a steel businessman from Bhilai has also been a victim of fraud. He was cheated out of 38,23,000 rupees by an industrialist from Bhilai-Three. The victim, who runs a company called Vashisth Ventures LSP in the village of Jarvay, had given 66,91,901 rupees to the accused, Gaurav Kumar, for steel purchases. However, Gaurav only delivered goods worth 28,68,831 rupees and kept the rest. Following the complaint, the police have registered a case against him for fraud and breach of trust. The complainant, Pankaj Sharma, has reported the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
