Biogas plant to be set up in Jamul, concession agreement signed between three agencies

Raipur. In line with the vision of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, a tripartite concession agreement was signed today between Municipal Corporation Bhilai, Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority and Bharat Petroleum Corporation with the objective of promoting the production of biofuel such as compressed biogas from municipal solid waste. On this occasion, Collector Durg Richa Prakash Chaudhary, CEO of Chhattisgarh Biofuel Sumit Sarkar, Biofuel Head of BPCL Mumbai Anil Kumar P., Commissioner Municipal Corporation Bhilai Bajrang Dubey, other senior officials of BPCL and Energy Department were present.

This agreement has been made under the Sustainable Scheme in Chhattisgarh, under which a CBG plant will be set up by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited by investing 100% of the amount of Rs 60 crore in Trenching Ground Jamul under Municipal Corporation Bhilai. With the establishment of this plant, about 150 metric tonnes of solid waste generated daily in Municipal Corporation Bhilai and the municipal corporations around Durg district can be used in biofuel production. With the installation of this plant, 30 thousand man-days of employment will be created directly and indirectly every year.

Organic manure obtained as a co-product in the compressed biogas plant will encourage organic farming. The establishment of the plant will reduce the emission of greenhouse gas and the environment will be clean. With the use of CBG, the state will move towards net zero emission.

It is worth noting that in view of the immense possibilities of production of biofuel such as compressed biogas from urban solid waste, as a result of the continuous efforts of Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, a tripartite MoU was executed on 13 March 2024 in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw between Municipal Corporation, Raipur and Bhilai, CBDA and BPCL for the establishment of 02 compressed biogas plants. Under which, a tripartite concession agreement was signed today on 21st October between Municipal Corporation Bhilai, CBDA and BPCL.
