Rohan Bopanna has got big successes in his career after the age of 35. Bopanna is now 44 years old. Despite this, he is creating new dimensions of success. This year itself, at the age of 43, he became the oldest tennis player to win a Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open title with Matthew Ebden. Now Bopanna’s eyes are on the Paris Olympics. He is going to play here not with his regular partner Matthew Ebden but with N Sriram Balaji, but his claim in Paris cannot be dismissed. If Bopanna wins a medal in men’s doubles with Balaji in Paris, he will create history. He can become the oldest Indian player to win a medal in the Olympics.
He chose his partner when they stayed together in the hotel
World number 62 Balaji is not Bopanna’s regular partner. Both are currently playing together to establish coordination for the Olympics. After much thought, Bopanna chose Balaji as his partner for the Olympics. In December 2023, Bopanna had arranged for some Indian players to stay with him in a hotel at his own expense. During this stay, Bopanna got to know everything about them. Balaji was also among them. It was believed that there would be a controversy over Bopanna’s partner, but it did not happen. Sources say that a few days after this stay, Bopanna had informed the All India Tennis Federation (AITA) that he was going to make Balaji his partner. However, Balaji’s name was announced much later. The tournament is being held on clay courts. Bopanna believes that Balaji plays well on clay courts.
