Basmati rice exports abroad increased by 13 percent
The demand for Indian Basmati rice is continuously increasing abroad. However, there has been a slight decline in the export of agricultural and processed food products. According to the data of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India exported Basmati rice worth $ 103.7 million in the April-May period of the current financial year 2024-25. This is 13.11 percent more than $ 91.7 million in the same period of 2023-24.
In fact, the restrictions imposed by the government on rice exports to control prices in the domestic market have affected other varieties. This is the reason why non-Basmati rice exports declined by 13.35 percent year-on-year to $ 919 million in April-May. According to the data, the export of agricultural and processed food products declined marginally by 0.49 per cent year-on-year to $433.7 crore in the April-May period of the current financial year. This export figure was $435.8 crore in the same period of 2023-24.
