Asia Cup 2025: Sanju Samson did not get a place in Harbhajan Singh’s selected team, know who got the chance

Harbhajan Singh Drops a Bombshell: His Dream Asia Cup Squad Revealed!-With the official selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, gearing up to announce India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, former spin wizard Harbhajan Singh has thrown his hat into the ring with his own preferred lineup. And let me tell you, Bhajji’s choices have certainly raised a few eyebrows, especially with the notable exclusion of Sanju Samson. Even with Rishabh Pant’s availability still a question mark, Harbhajan has opted to overlook Samson. Instead, he’s put his faith in KL Rahul as a potential wicket-keeping option. In a chat with The Times of India, Harbhajan detailed his picks, including three openers – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Abhishek Sharma. He’s also brought back Shreyas Iyer, who hasn’t played a T20 international since 2023, while surprisingly leaving out Tilak Varma. This lineup certainly offers a unique perspective on how to tackle the continental tournament.

KL Rahul Gets the Nod, Samson and Jurel Left Out in the Cold-Harbhajan Singh made his stance clear, stating, “I haven’t directly named KL Rahul in the team, but he can be an excellent option as a wicketkeeper. It could be either Pant or Rahul as the keeper.” This statement strongly suggests that players like Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel are not in his immediate plans for the playing XI. Harbhajan’s chosen squad features Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (as captain), Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh. He seems to have aimed for a balanced side, covering both batting and bowling departments effectively. However, it’s undeniable that some fans will be disappointed with Samson’s omission, especially given his consistent performances in recent times. This selective approach highlights Harbhajan’s specific vision for the team’s composition.

Official Selection Committee Might Have Different Ideas- While Harbhajan’s squad reflects his personal preferences and strategic thinking, the actual team selection will be in the hands of the official committee. Ajit Agarkar’s panel might very well present a squad that differs significantly from Harbhajan’s list. Considering the uncertainty surrounding Rishabh Pant’s fitness, there’s a strong possibility that Sanju Samson or Dhruv Jurel could find a place in the final squad, particularly for the crucial wicket-keeping role. Furthermore, the spin department could also see some adjustments, as the Indian team often tailors its spin attack based on the opposition and the specific conditions of the pitch. All eyes are now on the BCCI’s official announcement, which is expected soon. It will be fascinating to see how much overlap there is between Harbhajan’s ideal team and the selectors’ final decision.
