A student in Rishikesh was asked to leave class because she was wearing a tilak (a religious mark) to school. The incident happened on Wednesday at a private school in the city. An eighth-grade student went to school with a tilak on her forehead. When she entered the classroom, the teacher asked her to leave and remove the tilak. The student then removed the tilak and returned to class. The student told her family about the incident, and they were upset. Hindu organizations heard about the incident and protested at the school. They demanded that the teacher apologize in writing. After the teacher apologized, the situation calmed down. The principal also expressed regret over the incident and promised that it wouldn’t happen again.
