A Journey of Strength: Shruti’s Record-Breaking Ride and Her Fight for Self-Reliant Women

Motivational Story: The Inspiring Journey of Shruti Rawat
Shruti Rawat, a young woman from Gorshali village in the border district of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, has made a name for herself in the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records at just 25 years old. She achieved this recognition through an incredible 10,000 km cycling journey, aimed at raising awareness about women empowerment and environmental conservation. During her expedition, Shruti cycled across eight Indian states, Nepal, high-altitude Himalayan passes, and even reached one of the world’s highest lakes on her bicycle. In 2022, she also undertook a 2,000 km cycling journey alongside renowned environmentalist and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi, advocating for nature conservation.
Currently, Shruti is working with the Dhar Regional Development Institute to promote organic farming and empower women in agriculture in mountain regions. She is actively involved in cultivating aromatic and medicinal plants like rosemary, dandelion, and lavender. These plants are well-suited for the harsh conditions of mountainous regions, enduring challenges such as water scarcity, wildlife threats, and unpredictable weather. Their cultivation is creating better livelihood opportunities for farmers in these remote areas. Born into a simple family, Shruti always dreamed of doing something extraordinary. With unwavering support from her parents, Kusum and Satish Rawat, she pursued her passion fearlessly. Alongside cycling, she also dedicated herself to empowering women in the mountains by promoting self-employment through mushroom farming and sustainable agriculture. Even after marriage, Shruti continues to chase her dreams. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) while managing her various initiatives. Her husband serves in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and fully supports her ambitions. Shruti’s mission remains clear—to keep working for her homeland and uplift the women of her community.
