Elon Musk's India Visit Postponed: What's Happening?
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, had plans to visit India on April 21 and 22 to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss Tesla’s entry into the Indian market. However, his visit has been postponed for reasons that aren’t immediately clear.
One possible reason for the postponement is that Musk had a crucial conference call scheduled for April 23 in the United States to discuss Tesla’s performance in the first quarter. This call might have clashed with his India visit.
Before the visit was postponed, there was excitement about Musk’s plans for India. It was rumored that he would announce a significant investment of around 20-30 billion dollars in the country. Additionally, there were expectations that Musk would discuss the new electric vehicle manufacturing policy of India, which allows for duty concessions to electric car companies manufacturing in India.
However, despite these expectations, there were doubts whether an agreement for Starlink, another project of Musk’s, would happen during this visit.
Interestingly, Musk has expressed admiration for Prime Minister Modi in the past, calling himself a “Modi fan.” However, Modi clarified that Musk’s support is not just for him personally but for India as a whole. Modi recalled meeting Musk twice before, once during a factory visit in 2015 and again during his state visit to the US in 2023.
Despite the postponement, there’s still anticipation surrounding Musk’s eventual visit to India and the potential for Tesla’s entry into the Indian market.
