Residents Rally Against Power Outage in Sejbahar Housing Board Colony

The Sejbahar Housing Board Colony in Raipur has been in the midst of darkness for about a month now. This has caused a lot of difficulties for the residents living there. The colony has around 140 independent houses. After 6 PM, it becomes dark, and women and children are hesitant to go out onto the roads. The darkness has created fear among the residents due to antisocial elements and stray animals. Road accidents have been happening frequently in the dark, and there’s a fear of theft due to the absence of street lights. Moreover, recent rainfall has brought about concerns regarding snakes and scorpions.

The situation has led to a sense of unease spreading across the city’s neighborhoods and many colonies, making residents quite uncomfortable during the nighttime. Pedestrians are also facing difficulties due to the lack of street lights, having to navigate through the darkness, and there’s a heightened risk of unexpected incidents occurring on the roads. The electricity company has disconnected a connection to the colony due to unpaid bills amounting to around 84 lakh rupees. Because of this, a part of the colony has been engulfed in darkness for almost a month.

Allegations have been made against the Sejbahar Welfare Committee for arbitrary actions. It is alleged that instead of focusing on cleaning activities, committee officials are mistreating residents, engaging in disputes, and threatening to involve them in false cases. Those opposing are filing complaints at the police station. Just recently, a dispute escalated to the police station, resulting in one-sided action taken by the police.

During the torchlight rally, residents like Rahul Thakur, Deepak Naydu, Roshan, Rohit, Mukesh, Jagat, Rohit, Nayan, and Chandan, among others, participated in large numbers.
