Playing his 100th Test match, Ashwin took two wickets in three balls, courtesy of two splendid fielding efforts. Devdutt Padikkal, the debutant, was the first man to get the limelight, as Tom Hartley, batting on 6 off 9 deliveries, went for a big slog sweep against the veteran spinner. The timing, however, was not executed, as Padikkal, placed at long-on, took a skier brilliantly to end his stay.

Devdutt Padikkal was born on July 7, 2000, in Edappal, Kerala, India. He grew up in Karnataka and began playing cricket at a young age. Padikkal made his debut for Karnataka in domestic cricket during the 2018–19 season and quickly impressed with his batting skills.

In the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL), he was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. Padikkal had a breakout season in the IPL 2020, where he scored over 400 runs and earned praise for his consistent performances at the top of the order.

His success in domestic cricket and the IPL has put him on the radar of the national selectors, and he has been considered as a prospect for the Indian cricket team. While he hadn’t made his international debut as of my last update in January 2022, Padikkal’s journey continues as he aims to represent India at the highest level.
