With the expanding global opportunities and exposure in today’s world, one needs to expand his or her communication skills as well.
Data shows that 45% of private schools in India teach at least one cin their curriculum, the prominent ones being French, Spanish and German. In some schools apart from foreign languages, regional languages are also being taught as third language after English, Hindi and Sanskrit.
Learning two or more languages gives an extra edge to your profile too. Companies prefer their employees to know a third language apart from their native one and English. Many big companies, hospitals and hospitality chains have foreign affairs department which deals with foreign clients.
There are even cognitive benefits of being bilingual. Shreenathan, a professor and researcher adds, “Multilingual people show increased activation in the brain region associated with cognitive skills like attention and inhibition.
For example, multilinguals are proven to be better than monolinguals in encoding the fundamental frequency of sound in the presence of background noise. It is also found that multilinguals have more of grey matter in their brain compared to monolinguals.”
Knowing many
languages help one to connect with people of various cultures.
One can easily work on his or her language skills in today’s time. Thanks to the various language learning apps and websites available on the internet.
