There’s a surprising twist with the Gaganyan Mission! Four Gaganveers were selected for the mission, only two or three will actually go to space on the mission. And one of these astronauts might join America’s space mission.
Deal signed between ISRO and NASA.
During Prime Minister Modi’s visit to America, a deal was signed between ISRO and NASA. Under this deal, one of the four pilots selected for the Gaganyaan mission will be selected for the International Space Station (ISS) mission. This ISS mission is scheduled to take place before India’s inaugural manned space mission, Gaganyaan. The idea is for astronauts to gather important information and training from ISS missions to better prepare for Gaganyaan. Quite a strategic move for India’s space ambitions!
The Gaganyaan mission
The Gaganyaan mission is India’s first manned space mission, aiming for a launch between 2024-2025. The project envisages launching a crew of three humans into an orbit of 400 km for a three-day mission and bringing them back safely to Earth by landing in Indian sea waters.
PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the names of four pilots who are undergoing training for the space flight mission ‘Gaganyaan’.
The pilots are – Group Captain P Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander S Shukla.
