Delhi. On the occasion of Republic Day, Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena has announced relaxation in sentence to different categories of prisoners serving sentences in various jails of Delhi.
Apart from all the women prisoners who are serving sentences ranging from one year to more than 10 years, special pardon has also been granted to some other categories of prisoners. All female prisoners and men above 65 years of age, whose sentence period is more than 10 years, will be eligible to get 90 days remission from their sentence. Whereas for other categories the relaxation will be from 20 to 90 days. Those prisoners serving a sentence of more than 10 years will be given a relaxation of 90 days i.e. three months in their sentence, and those who are above 65 years of age, while other prisoners will get a relaxation of 60 days i.e. two months. In the category of prisoners serving a sentence of 5 years or more and up to 10 years, male prisoners above 65 years of age and female prisoners of all ages will be given relaxation of 60 days. Male prisoners below 65 years of age will get 45 days relaxation in their sentence. Apart from this, prisoners sentenced for more than 1 year and up to 5 years in all categories will get remission of sentence of 30 days. In case of punishment up to 1 year, male prisoners above 65 years of age and women of all ages will be exempted from the punishment of 20 days and for other prisoners, 15 days will be waived.
