Gwalior’s Unprecedented July Rainfall: A Record-Breaking Monsoon-Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh experienced a monsoon season unlike any other this July. The sheer volume of rainfall shattered decades-old records, leaving locals and meteorologists alike astonished.

A Month of Unrelenting Rain-July 2024 in Gwalior witnessed an extraordinary 798.7 millimeters of rainfall over 22 days—a staggering amount that surpasses the previous 95-year record. This deluge resulted in the completion of the entire annual rainfall quota for the year within a single month! The rainfall was a phenomenal 236% higher than previous records, a truly remarkable feat of nature.

Four Records Shattered-This unprecedented rainfall didn’t just break one record; it shattered four! First, the previous record of 623.3 mm in 1990 was dwarfed by the 798.7 mm recorded this year. Second, the combined June-July rainfall of 1050.3 mm exceeded any amount seen in the last 25 years. Third, a single-day record of 174.9 mm of rainfall was recorded, an incredible downpour. Fourth, and perhaps most remarkably, 22 consecutive days of rain were recorded in July—an event unseen in over a century.

State-Wide Impact-Gwalior wasn’t alone in experiencing this monsoon madness. Many other districts in Madhya Pradesh also saw their annual rainfall quotas exceeded. Districts such as Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Rajgarh, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Morena, and Sheopur all reported rainfall exceeding 50% of their average. Tikamgarh and Niwari experienced the heaviest rainfall, while Indore saw the least. The state’s overall rainfall stands at an impressive 28 inches, significantly surpassing the typical 17.6 inches.
