Uttarakhand Floods: Heavy Rainfall Triggers Yellow Alert

Unrelenting Rains Lash Uttarakhand-Uttarakhand is currently battling heavy rainfall, causing significant disruptions to daily life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, warning of more intense rainfall. The situation is particularly critical in districts like Dehradun, Nainital, and Haridwar, where the sky remains heavily overcast and waterlogging is reported in many areas. This spell of intense rainfall is expected to continue until August 6th, impacting the lives and livelihoods of many residents.

Which Districts Need Extra Caution?-The IMD forecasts particularly heavy rain in Nainital, Pauri, Haridwar, and Bageshwar. Other districts, including Rudraprayag, Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Champawat, and Almora, are also expected to experience significant rainfall. This continuous downpour has severely impacted the Char Dham Yatra, causing frequent disruptions. Authorities urge travelers and locals to avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.

Kedarnath Highway Closure-The heavy rainfall has caused severe damage to a section of the Kedarnath Highway. A 50-meter stretch of road near Munaktia, between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, has been blocked by debris, halting traffic completely. Pilgrims heading to Kedarnath Dham are stranded in Gaurikund, and the pilgrimage has been suspended for the next two days. Rescue teams are on-site working to clear the debris and restore the road as quickly as possible.
