An old man got buried in the sand, no clue found even after 24 hours – Rain became the reason for the accident in Mahasamund

Tragedy Strikes: Elderly Man Swallowed by Collapsing Stop Dam-A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Singhoda, where a stop dam’s collapse tragically claimed the life of an elderly man.

 The Incident-In the village of Raksa, Mhasamund district, heavy rainfall triggered a devastating event. Shobha Ram, an elderly villager, was standing near a stop dam when the earth gave way. The dam, weakened by the torrential downpour and internal seepage, collapsed, engulfing him in the rushing water and mud.

 Rescue Efforts Underway-Bystanders immediately sprang into action, attempting to rescue the man, but their efforts proved futile. Local authorities were alerted, initiating a rescue operation. Despite the 24-hour search, the man remained missing, casting a pall of fear and anxiety over the village.

NDRF Deployed-The local police and administration summoned a specialized NDRF team from Odisha. Divers are meticulously searching the dam’s depths, while excavators work tirelessly to remove the debris. However, so far, the search has yielded no results.

 Safety Precautions Emphasized-Sarai Pali’s SDM, Namrata Choubey, highlighted the challenges posed by the strong currents, hindering rescue efforts. Authorities are working to control the water flow and have implemented safety measures around the dam site. Block-level officials and staff are on-site to assist.

A Village in Distress-The incident has left the village in a state of shock and distress. Large crowds have gathered at the site, prompting authorities to appeal for calm and cooperation, urging villagers to maintain a safe distance to avoid hindering rescue operations.
