Sara Ali Khan and Kedarnath: A journey of faith amid trolling

Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan has recently spoken openly about her religious faith and Kedarnath visits. She told how the negative reactions and trolling received on social media have not affected her personal choice. Sara’s recent film ‘Sky Force’ is doing well on the OTT platform and in the meantime she has given her opinion on this aspect of her life.

Attraction of Kedarnath – Sara often shares pictures of Kedarnath temple on social media. In an interview, she was asked how she deals with the negative comments she gets when she visits Hindu religious places despite being a Muslim. Sara told that she has learned to ignore this noise. She said that since childhood her mother has taught her to identify herself as an Indian and not from any particular religion or caste.

Mother’s teachings and Indian identity – At the Times Now Summit 2025, Sara said, “I was very young, studying in school. When my parents got married and we lived abroad, I was always surrounded by these questions – Amrita Singh, Saif Pataudi, Sara Sultana, Ibrahim Ali Khan… who are we? I asked my mother, ‘What am I?’ and she said, ‘You are an Indian.’ I will never forget that.” Sara, speaking about her mother’s Sikh and father’s Muslim religion, said that India is a secular country. She said, “All these boundaries, all these notions are created and changed by people, and I don’t follow them. I don’t give it as much importance as other people do.”

Trolling and personal choices – Sara admitted that trolling bothers her, but she has learned to ignore the negativity. She said, “It’s stupid to change the way others think. I have to ignore it.” Talking about her visits to Kedarnath, Sara said, “My personal visit to Kedarnath… with all due respect to who likes it, who dislikes it, it’s not about any of you. It’s about me. And I feel comfortable, calm and happy there.”
