
Mauganj ASI Murder: Police Crackdown Continues, 150 Booked, 20 Arrested
Rewa (Mauganj ASI Murder) – In a shocking incident in Mauganj district’s Shahpur police station area, a mob attacked a police team, leading to the brutal murder of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). So far, police have registered two FIRs and filed cases against nearly 150 people for charges including assault, murder, attempted murder, rioting, and obstructing government work.
20 Arrested, Village Under Heavy Police Watch
Out of those accused, 20 people have been arrested so far. Among them are a YouTuber journalist, the current village head (Sarpanch), and a former Sarpanch, who have been accused of conspiring before the attack. The situation in the village remains tense, with police enforcing Section 144 to prevent further unrest. Mauganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Rasna Thakur stated that police teams are actively searching for the remaining suspects and assured that all involved will be arrested soon. Meanwhile, Dr. Rahul Mishra, Superintendent of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, confirmed that all injured police personnel are in stable condition.
Deputy CM Visits the Bereaved Family
Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla met with the family of the deceased ASI, Sunny Dwivedi, and assured them that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
Arrests for Instigating Violence
Based on inputs from interrogations, police have arrested journalist Mohammad Rafiq and two others for allegedly inciting the attack. Police are examining videos found on the journalist’s mobile phone as part of their investigation.
DGP Offers Support to Martyred ASI’s Family
Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana visited ASI Ramcharan Gautam’s home in Pawaiya village on Monday. Paying tribute to the slain officer, he assured the grieving family that the government will provide ₹1 crore as financial assistance. Additionally, one family member will be offered a government job.
The Incident
The attack was linked to an old rivalry in the village. A young man was allegedly held captive and beaten up. When police arrived to intervene on Saturday evening, they were ambushed by villagers. ASI Ramcharan Gautam lost his life in the assault, escalating tensions in the region. By Monday, two separate FIRs had been registered, naming around 150 people, and police had taken 20 individuals into custody as part of their ongoing investigation.
