Reshuffle in Uttarakhand Cabinet Soon? Political Activity Heats Up

Cabinet Expansion Buzz in Uttarakhand After CM Dhami’s Delhi Visit

After Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami returned from his Delhi visit, discussions about cabinet expansion have gained momentum once again. The political atmosphere has heated up, especially after statements from BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt and MP Anil Baluni. Speculations suggest that the Dhami cabinet might see an expansion and reshuffle around Holi. As soon as PM Modi returned from his Mukba-Harsil visit, CM Dhami also reached Delhi. He stayed there for a day, met with the central leadership, and then returned to Dehradun. It is believed that during this visit, CM Dhami discussed cabinet expansion and reshuffling with the party high command. Reports suggest that he has received the green signal from the central leadership, and the expansion could happen anytime, possibly around Holi.

Four Vacant Seats, Possible Reshuffling

Currently, four ministerial positions in the Dhami cabinet are vacant, which means four MLAs could get lucky this time. Additionally, two to three existing ministers might be replaced. The controversy surrounding Parliamentary Affairs Minister Premchand Agarwal, following his statement in the assembly, has put the party in an uncomfortable position. His removal is being speculated, but the final call will be taken by the high command. BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt hinted at the cabinet expansion, stating that the final decision rests with CM Dhami. Meanwhile, BJP’s national media in-charge and MP Anil Baluni’s statement on the Agarwal issue has added fuel to the fire. While speaking to the media, Baluni called the matter “unfortunate and distressing.” He emphasized that as a party spokesperson, he has his limitations regarding public statements but has conveyed his stance to the party leadership. His remarks have further fueled speculation that Premchand Agarwal might be shown the exit door.

Potential Ministers and Regional Balance

At present, four ministerial positions remain unfilled in the Uttarakhand government, which allows for a maximum of 12 ministers. Currently, including the CM, there are only eight ministers. The reshuffling is expected to impact two ministers from Dehradun and one from Pauri district. Regarding new inclusions, discussions suggest that two new faces each from Garhwal and Kumaon might be inducted. The party is also focusing on maintaining a balance between youth, women, caste, and regional representation. Alongside the new appointments, one or two current ministers could be removed from the cabinet. With Holi approaching, all eyes are now on the final decision from the BJP high command, as Uttarakhand prepares for a possible political shake-up.
