Chamoli Avalanche Update: 47 Workers Rescued, 8 Unaccounted for, CM Dhami to Visit Site

Uttarakhand Avalanche: 47 Workers Rescued, 8 Still Missing in Chamoli

In a major rescue operation after the avalanche in Mana village, Chamoli, 47 out of 55 trapped workers have been successfully rescued. However, 8 workers are still missing. Initially, reports suggested that 57 workers were present at the site, but later, the government clarified that two of them were on leave. This morning, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the rescue operation over a phone call from Dehradun. He has also planned an on-site inspection in Joshimath as soon as the weather clears. The CM has directed officials to airlift the critically injured workers to higher medical centers for treatment. With clearer weather in Joshimath, helicopter rescue operations have intensified since this morning. However, the weather remains unfavorable across the state, and the Meteorological Department has issued an alert.

The avalanche occurred at around 6:30 AM on Friday near Mana village when a massive snow slide from Mount Kuber buried the laborers’ camp. Some workers managed to escape, but many were trapped under the snow. The Army and ITBP immediately launched a rescue mission, but the operation was challenging due to nearly 8 feet of accumulated snow at the site. As soon as reports of workers being trapped surfaced, CM Dhami swiftly took charge, reaching the Disaster Operations Center to get updates and instructing officials to expedite the rescue efforts. He later revisited the center in the evening to monitor the situation closely. The CM has been actively overseeing every aspect of the rescue mission, ensuring coordinated efforts to save those trapped. The rescue and relief operations are being carried out by multiple agencies, including the Army, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, BRO, local administration, health department, and the Indian Air Force.

To assist concerned families, the government has issued helpline numbers:
8218867005, 9058441404, 0135-2664315
Toll-Free Helpline: 1070

Authorities are making every possible effort to rescue the remaining workers and ensure their safety.
