Gold and Cash Worth Crores Found in Car – Ownership Still a Mystery

Bhopal: The Lokayukta police have sought information from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding documents recovered during raids at the residences of former Transport Department constable Saurabh Sharma, his close associates Chetan Singh Gaur and Sharad Jaiswal, and some of Saurabh’s relatives. These documents include land records, bank account details, and information related to Saurabh’s companies. So far, the ED has not provided any details. Earlier, the Lokayukta police had also written to the Income Tax Department for information, but the department has refused to share details related to its inquiry and seizures.

On December 18, 2024, just a day after the Lokayukta police raided Saurabh Sharma’s properties, authorities found 54 kg of gold and ₹10 crore in cash in a car near Mendori village, close to Bhopal. Based on a tip-off, the Income Tax Department seized the vehicle along with the cash and gold. The department is also conducting its own investigation. Meanwhile, the ED has taken Saurabh, Chetan, and Sharad into custody for questioning until February 17. Once their remand period ends, the three will be presented before the special ED court on Monday. Sources indicate that the ED does not plan to extend their custody any further. Additionally, an alleged diary recovered during the investigation reportedly contains names of several high-ranking officials and politicians, along with records of financial transactions.
