
Raipur Police dated 13.02.2025: On 11.02.24, a robbery was committed in the applicant’s house in Anupam Nagar under Khamhardih police station area. A total of 10 accused including 02 interstate accused from Nagpur and 01 woman have been arrested in the case. Within 24 hours of the incident, all the accused in the case were arrested along with the entire contraband. Anti Crime and Cyber Unit team Raipur played an important role in identifying and arresting the accused. Robbery cash amount of Rs 59,50,000/- (sixty nine lakh fifty thousand rupees), gold jewellery and Ridged and Alto used in the incident have been seized from the possession of the accused. The total value of the contraband is approximately Rs 70 lakh. Accused Shahid Pathan has previously been imprisoned in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra in a case of breach of trust. Crime number 42/25 under sections 310(2), 331(5), 123, 351(3) BNS 25, 27 of Arms Act has been registered against the accused in Khamhardih police station.
Description – The applicant Manoharan Velu lodged a report in Khamhardih police station that he lives with his sisters Prema Velu and Ranjani Velu in a rented house in house number D-14 in Anupam Nagar. On 11.02.2025, between 02:30 and 03:20 pm, the applicant was at home with his two sisters. The applicant was sitting in the living room of the house, his sister Ranjani was sitting in the next room and Prema was sleeping in the other room. At the same time two persons wearing military uniform, their faces covered with handkerchiefs, entered the applicant’s house and said, “Have you made any complaint? We have come to talk about that.” During the conversation, another person wearing dark blue pants and covering his face with a handkerchief came inside the house from outside. At the same time, a person in uniform and a person wearing dark blue pants pushed the applicant and caught hold of his hands and legs and threw him on the ground. Another person wearing uniform brought a white towel from inside the house and tied his legs. The person without uniform tied his hands with white tape and put tape on his mouth. Then a person wearing uniform took out the pistol he had with him and said that if you make any noise, I will kill you. A man standing near him came from outside with his face covered with a handkerchief and a woman wearing yellow salwar with her face covered with a handkerchief came inside and went to Prema and Ranjani’s room. After some time, all five persons left the house and locked the door from outside. The sound of a car starting was heard outside. The applicant realized that they had left and he somehow removed the tape tied on his hand and then opened the tape on his mouth and the towel tied on his feet. Going to the adjacent room of Ranjani, the tape on her mouth and hands was opened. Then Ranjani told that a person threatened to kill her with a pistol, after putting tape on her mouth and hands, injected her once in her left arm and took away Rs. 60 lakhs kept in a pink colour bag and Rs. 5 lakhs kept in a black colour bag from inside the bed. Sister Prema told that a person gagged her mouth and said that he would kill her and at gunpoint injected her twice in her right arm and snatched the gold chain that the woman was wearing around her neck and opened the cupboard and took out two gold chains and Rs. 25,000 cash kept in it and also robbed her and Ranjani’s total of 03 mobile phones. Four unknown masked men and one unknown masked woman entered the house of the applicant and threatened to kill the applicant and his two sisters with a pistol and took away a total of Rs. 65,25,000 in cash, three gold chains weighing about 06 tola and three mobile phones worth about Rs. 66,00,000. On the report of the applicant, a case number 42/25 under sections 310(2), 331(5), 123, 351(3) BNS 25, 27 of Arms Act was registered against the unknown accused in Khamhardih police station.
Taking the robbery incident seriously, Inspector General of Police, Raipur Range, Raipur, Amresh Mishra and Deputy Inspector General of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr. Lal Umed Singh directed Additional Superintendent of Police City Lakhan Patel, Additional Superintendent of Police Crime Sandeep Mittal, City Superintendent of Police Vidhan Sabha Virendra Chaturvedi, Inspector in charge Paresh Kumar Pandey Anti Crime and Cyber Unit and Police Station in charge Khamhardih Inspector Manoj Kumar Sahu to trace the unknown accused and arrest them as soon as possible. On which, considering the seriousness of the case, 10 special teams of Crime Branch were formed. After inspecting the crime spot by the team members, detailed technical interrogation was done with the applicant and his sisters Prema and Ranjani regarding the incident, along with immediate blockade in police stations and border districts, dog squad, forensic team and technical team of crime branch were deployed to collect evidence. Along with this, detailed interrogation was done with the people around about the incident and their statements were recorded. After detailed scrutiny of CCTV footages installed around the site of incident by the technical team of Crime Branch, it was found that a woman wearing yellow coloured Salwar Suit with scarf tied around her mouth and 04 men out of which 02 are wearing combat dress and 02 are in normal dress came in a white coloured registered car without number plate and stopped at the site of incident and entered the applicant’s house one by one and after committing the crime, absconded.
After the said incident, along with scrutinising the footages of thousands of CCTV cameras installed on the routes used by the suspicious vehicle, information regarding the vehicle was also obtained to trace the unknown accused. Along with deploying informers in the case, efforts were also being made to identify the unknown accused through technical analysis. CCTV footages were scanned by 10 different teams. The direction of escape of the accused was ascertained by scanning the footage, during this time the police team was informed by an informer that a vehicle matching the appearance of the accused and the vehicle used in the incident was seen. After verifying the information, all the teams were forwarded in that direction, after which teams were sent to places like Amaleshwar, Motipur, Pahanda, Mahoda, Parsada, Patan, Utai, Funda etc. and informers and technical evidence were collected. CCTV. While watching the footage, it was found that after the incident, an Alto car was piloting the car used by the accused, in which a suspicious woman was seen. After that, when the team followed the said vehicle till Rajnandgaon, the owner of the said vehicle was identified as Rahul Tripathi, resident of Manki. After which, information was collected about the daily routine and friends of the accused and they were kept under surveillance. As per the orders of senior officers, a well-planned scheme was made and the suspects were detained and questioned by raiding Rajnandgaon, Durg, Bilaspur, Nagpur, Baloda Bazar and Raipur. On which, they admitted to committing the said incident and told about dividing the amount of robbery among themselves in a deserted place after the incident and also told about throwing the mobile phone of the robbery and the clothes worn at the time of the incident on the road.
During investigation it was found that A. Som Shekhar took voluntary retirement from BSF as Subedar in the year 2011 and is currently associated with an NGO named Real Help and also works as a land broker. He had a domestic relationship with the applicant’s family and was aware of the money kept there. On this, accused A. Som Shekhar planned to rob the money and included his associates Devlal Verma who is an electrician and Kamlesh Verma who is a driver and also works as a land broker. According to the plan, he showed the applicant’s house to his associates Devlal Verma and Kamlesh Verma by telling them that they were land buyers and gave them information about the cash kept in the house and the place where the money was kept. He also asked them to include other persons in his plan saying that more persons were needed. On which Devlal Verma and Kamlesh Verma told their acquaintance Purushottam Devangan about the plan and included other accused Ajay Thakur, Rahul Tripathi, Neha Tripathi, Shahid Pathan and Pintu Sarwan resident of Nagpur Maharashtra and Manuraj Maurya resident of Bilaspur by telling them about the plan. According to the plan, before committing the incident, Purushottam Devangan identified the house of the applicant to Ajay Thakur, Rahul Tripathi and Neha Tripathi. After that, after fixing the date of the incident, the accused were called from Bilaspur and Nagpur to Raipur and as per the plan, on the next day i.e. 11.02.25, Rahul Tripathi and Neha Tripathi came to Jheeth in their Alto car, left Rahul Tripathi and the Alto car there, switched off all their mobile phones and kept them there. All the five accused came to Raipur in a registered car without number and carried out the said robbery.
All the accused were arrested and the robbery cash amount of Rs. 59,50,000/- (fifty nine lakh fifty thousand rupees), gold jewellery and the registered car and Alto car used in the incident, total worth Rs. 70 lakhs were seized from their possession and action was taken against the accused.
