YouTube Takes Down Ranveer Allahbadia’s Controversial Episode After Huge Public Outrage

YouTube has removed the latest episode of the comedy show ‘India’s Got Latent’, hosted by Ranveer Allahbadia, after it triggered massive backlash across the country. In this episode, Ranveer allegedly asked a contestant highly inappropriate and vulgar questions, sparking a heated debate on freedom of speech and content ethics in India. After growing public outrage, the Indian government stepped in and asked YouTube to take the video down, and now the platform has blocked it in India.
Indian Government Confirms Episode Removal – Senior advisor at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Kanchan Gupta, confirmed the episode’s removal on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He posted, “YouTube has blocked the ‘India’s Got Latent’ episode featuring Ranveer Allahbadia’s obscene and offensive remarks, following an official order from the Indian government.”
This action came after the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) formally reached out to YouTube’s Public Policy Head, Meera Chat, urging them to take down the video. The NHRC stated that the episode contained explicit and inappropriate remarks involving women and children, raising major concerns about safety, dignity, and mental well-being.
Human Rights Commission Warns About Harmful Content – In its letter, the NHRC highlighted that content like this poses a serious risk to the safety and dignity of women and children. The commission also stressed that such explicit material, available on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, could have harmful psychological effects and violate ethical standards.
FIR Filed Against Ranveer Allahbadia & Others – The controversy took a legal turn when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on X that the state police had filed an FIR against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and Ashish Chanchlani for their involvement in the episode. The FIR also includes names of Apurva Makija and Jaspreet Singh, who were present on the show.
Ranveer Allahbadia Responds with an Apology – Following the backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia released a video statement addressing the controversy. He apologized for his remarks, saying, “What I said was inappropriate, and honestly, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy isn’t really my thing. I just want to say sorry.” Despite his apology, this incident has sparked a much larger debate about content moderation on digital platforms and the responsibility of influencers in shaping public conversations.
