Bagh print craftsmen from Madhya Pradesh make a splash at Pune’s Heritage Haat
Bhopal: Bagh Print, which has given national recognition to the rich handicraft tradition of Madhya Pradesh, left its unique mark at the Heritage Artisan Haat in Pune. This exhibition, organized at Monalisa Kalagram in Pune, was inaugurated by renowned filmmakers Ms. Gauri Shinde and R. Balki. This is the first time that Heritage Artisan Haat has been organized at this level in India, in which 30 leading craftsmen from across the country have been invited. This exhibition will run till 3 February 2025. Bagh print received appreciation National and international award winning craftsmen Mohammad Yusuf Khatri and Abdul Karim Khatri of Dhar district showcased the prestigious Bagh print handicraft of Madhya Pradesh in this event. Craft lovers from various cities of Maharashtra came to know this ancient art closely, understood its nuances and became familiar with the rich tradition of Bagh print. Famous social worker Mrs. Lisa Pingle invited 30 eminent craftsmen from all over the country to her farm house Monalisa free of cost. Showing her special interest in Bagh print, she herself bought a Bagh print saree and got a blouse stitched there and wore it to promote this handicraft. Bollywood’s veteran producers Gauri Shinde and R. Balki praised the beauty and uniqueness of Bagh print. They not only praised the work of Shilpguru Mohammad Yusuf and Abdul Karim Khatri but also praised their efforts to preserve and promote Bagh print art. On this occasion, Mohammad Yusuf Khatri presented a special painting of Bagh print to filmmaker R. Balki on behalf of Virasat Karigar Haat. It was presented as a symbol of his contribution and support towards the handicraft art. Bagh print on the rise in popularity in Pune During the exhibition, the citizens of Pune liked the cotton fabrics of Bagh print very much and purchased these fabrics in large numbers. This exhibition not only became an important platform for the promotion of Bagh print but also gave the artisans of Madhya Pradesh an opportunity to exhibit their art at the national and international level. This event has proved to be an important link in the efforts to take the traditional handicrafts and Bagh prints of Madhya Pradesh to the national and international markets.
