Raipur, 25 January 2024: Flag Foundation of India, led by Kurukshetra MP and well-known industrialist Naveen Jindal, has done a unique work of uniting the whole of India under the national flag by running the “Mera Dhaaga, Mera Tricolor, Mera Desh” campaign. This campaign was launched on 31 October 2024 on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary and National Unity Day, which is dedicated to Sardar Patel’s vision of a unified India and the completion of 75 years of the implementation of the Indian Republic i.e. the Constitution. Under this campaign, threads of those four colors were sought from the countrymen, so that the national flag, a symbol of pride and patriotism, could be prepared. As we know, our National Flag Tricolour is a living symbol of India’s “Unity in Diversity”. The aim of this initiative was to promote national pride, educate citizens about the significance of the Tricolour and encourage mass participation, uniting crores of people under the National Flag.

Speaking on the significance of the campaign, Naveen Jindal, Chairman, Flag Foundation of India said, “The Indian National Flag is not just a symbol; it is the soul of our nation. Every thread of the Tricolour carries the legacy of our ancestors, the skill of artisans and the spirit of countless generations who contributed to the building of India.” The campaign was run on a national level, using both online and offline mediums. The message was widely propagated through social media, while offline events like Kurukshetra Gita Mahotsav directly connected citizens who wanted to contribute to the thread collection drive. The campaign received overwhelming support from across the country till 25 December 2024. These threads were converted into yarn at a state-of-the-art textile recycling facility in Panipat. Each thread was carefully processed with a blend of tradition and innovation, creating 20 kg of integrated yarn.

This yarn was woven into the Tricolour by weavers adept at India’s diverse textile traditions, such as Sambalpuri, Maheshwari and Pochampalli Ikat weaving. Underlining the impact of the campaign, Smt. Shalu Jindal, Vice President, Flag Foundation of India said, “The journey of making a flag from thread was not just about weaving a cloth; it was about weaving stories — stories of perseverance, heritage and unity. Each thread encapsulates the spirit of our community, traditions and the ideals that the Tricolour represents.” The “Mera Dhaaga, Mera Tricolour, Mera Desh” campaign culminated in the creation of a magnificent 12 x 8 feet Indian Tricolour, symbolizing national unity. This new national flag, which reflects India’s strength, unity and rich traditions, was presented to the President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu. Presenting this flag to the President reflects the importance of this campaign and the national flag. This tricolour will be hoisted by the President on an official occasion, which will be a moment of national pride and celebration. Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman, Flag Foundation of India said, “We hope that this tricolour, which has been made with love and dedication, will fly higher than ever before and inspire all Indians to embrace its values and ideals.”
