The medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is keeping a close eye on Mohammed Shami. He recently underwent surgery on his right heel, which has healed well. However, he is experiencing slight swelling in his knee, which is why he wasn’t sent to Australia for the matches following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Exciting news might be on the horizon for Shami, who is eager to return to the national team. England is set to tour India in January, where they will play both ODI and T20I series. Reports suggest that Shami could make his comeback for the series against England and potentially for the Champions Trophy as well.
As per a report from Cricbuzz, the NCA’s medical team is closely monitoring Shami’s condition. While his heel is healing nicely, the knee swelling has kept him from traveling to Australia for the matches after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Recently, Shami participated in a few matches for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and is gearing up to play in the pre-quarterfinal against Haryana in Baroda on Thursday. Shami is under the watchful eye of the NCA medical team, and he always has at least one NCA physio or trainer with him wherever he goes. There were some physios and trainers present in Rajkot when he played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, and recently, an NCA physio was seen overseeing both Shami and Hardik Pandya in Hyderabad.
Members of the national selection committee are expected to be present during the knockout matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Baroda to closely assess Shami’s performance. Reports indicate that his bowling hasn’t been affected, and he is largely free from discomfort. On another note, fast bowler Akash Deep is unlikely to play in the upcoming white-ball series against England. It is believed that he will be sidelined for at least a month due to back pain, which caused him to miss the fifth and final Test against Australia.
