Pant’s Bravery and Pujara’s Patience Helped India End a 70-Year Drought
Beating the Australian cricket team on their home turf is no easy feat, but India has managed to do it twice. The first time was during the 2018-19 series, and it happened on this very day at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Winning against Australia at home is a tough challenge. They are considered one of the strongest teams in the world, and when playing on their own ground, they are like lions hunting their prey. However, India turned the tables and defeated Australia in their own backyard. This historic achievement took place today, and it was during the final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which ended in a draw, allowing India to win the series 2-1.
After 70 years, India broke Australia’s pride by winning a Test series on their home ground. This remarkable feat occurred during India’s tour of Australia in 2018-19. The last Test of the series was played from January 3 to 7, 2019, and it ended in a draw due to rain. If the match hadn’t been interrupted, the score could have been 3-1 in favor of India.
In the first innings of that match, India declared at a whopping 622 runs for the loss of seven wickets. They then bowled out the Australian team for just 300 runs in their first innings. India enforced the follow-on, but rain prevented the Australians from batting again. In India’s first innings, Cheteshwar Pujara scored an impressive 193 runs, facing 373 balls and hitting 22 fours. Alongside him, Rishabh Pant made 159 runs off 189 balls, with 15 fours and a six. This was Pant’s second Test century on foreign soil. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja and Mayank Agarwal contributed with half-centuries. Jadeja scored 81 runs off 114 balls, hitting seven fours and a six, while Mayank made 77 runs from 112 balls, with seven fours and two sixes. On the bowling side, Kuldeep Yadav took five wickets, while Mohammed Shami and Jadeja each claimed two wickets. Bumrah also contributed with one wicket, and throughout the series, he took a total of 21 wickets.
