Raipur, 10 December 2024 Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai on Tuesday, 10 December, attended the tribute program organized at Sonakhan, the birthplace and work place of Chhattisgarh’s first martyr Veer Narayan Singh, on his martyrdom day. Chief Minister Sai paid tribute to martyr Veer Narayan Singh by garlanding and offering tributes to his statue at the martyr memorial located in Sonakhan. He also visited the Martyr Veer Narayan Singh Museum. He honoured the descendants of martyr Veer Narayan Singh in the tribute programme. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced to open a post-matric hostel in Sonakhan, give 15 lakhs for Sonakhan Madai fair, install high mast lights in 23 tourist and historical places, upgrade 3 ponds of Sonakhan to Amrit Sarovar and also give pension to all the members who are deprived of pension, the descendants of martyr Veer Narayan. Along with this, the keys of PM Awas Gramin were handed over to 10 beneficiaries. Distribution of Ayushman cards to the beneficiaries, honouring PM Janman Adarsh Panchayat Baldakchar and Aavarai, young talented students of tribal society were honoured. Addressing the programme, Chief Minister Sai said that I have come for the first time as the Chief Minister to the birth and work place of martyr Veer Narayan Singh. This holy land is a symbol of sacrifice for the poor. He said that martyr Veer Narayan Singh sacrificed his life for the protection of the lives and self-respect of the poor, which is inspirational for all of us. When there was a famine in the Sonakhan area, he was moved to see the condition of the people suffering from hunger and distributed grains from the godown. He blew the trumpet of revolution against the British. The British government hanged him in Jai Stambh Chowk of Raipur on 10 December 1857.
He said that there have been many tribal freedom fighters like Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh who did not get proper respect but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to honor tribal personalities. The Prime Minister has announced to celebrate Tribal Pride Day on 15 November. Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana has been started for the development of people of special backward tribal community. Under PM Gram Utkarsh Yojana, 6 thousand villages of the state will get benefit. The Chief Minister said that Shaheed Veer Narayan Museum is being constructed in Raipur at a cost of 9 crores. Basic facilities are being expanded in tribal dominated areas. Our government has fulfilled most of the promises under Modi’s guarantee in one year. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw said that martyr Veer Narayan Singh fought the British against injustice and atrocities. His sacrifice will remain immortal in history. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working for the development and respect of the tribal society. Now Tribal Pride Day is being celebrated. Today the first citizen of the country is the daughter of the tribal society and the head of the state is also the son of a tribal farmer. Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam said that before the year 2003, Sonakhan was a very backward area. After our government came, rapid development started here. All basic facilities are being expanded. Today the son of a tribal farmer is taking charge of the state and is bringing the Ganga of development. On this occasion, Minister in charge of the district Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Revenue Minister Tankaram Verma, Keshkal MLA Neelkanth Tekam, former Assembly Speaker Gaurishankar Agarwal, former MLA Shivratan Sharma, former MLA Sanam Jangde, former MLA Shishupal Sori, descendant of martyr Veer Narayan Singh Rajendra Diwan, Superintendent of Police Vijay Agarwal along with other public representatives and a large number of social people were present.
