School Building in Bad Shape? District Magistrate Takes Action, Demands Answers and Fixes!
The Chief Education Officer and the Block Education Officer have been issued a notice regarding the incident where plaster fell from the roof of a school. As soon as the incident was reported, the Tehsildar was sent to check on the students’ well-being at their homes and to inquire about their condition. All Block Development Officers and Block Education Officers have been instructed to provide certificates regarding the condition of schools in their respective areas. They need to present certificates about the dilapidated school buildings, any repairs made, and the transfer of students to other schools if the buildings are in poor condition.
In Dehradun, on December 9, 2024, District Magistrate Savin Bansal took immediate action after hearing about the plaster falling from the roof of Government Higher Secondary School in Rampur Kala, which injured some students. He sent the Tehsildar of Vikas Nagar to visit the students’ homes and check on them. He also spoke with the parents, assuring them of all possible support and safety. The District Magistrate summoned the Chief Education Officer and the Block Education Officer to explain why the school had not been repaired and why students were not moved to other classrooms if the current ones were unsafe. He directed all Block Development Officers and Block Education Officers to submit certificates regarding the condition of dilapidated school buildings, any repairs made, and the number of students transferred to other schools. The District Magistrate emphasized that such gross negligence is unacceptable. He ordered a survey of all schools to ensure that incidents like this do not happen again and to submit their reports in the specified format..
