By March, 16,000 Affordable Homes for Low-Income Families Will Be Ready
The Uttarakhand Housing Development Council is currently working on 15 residential projects.
The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is developing 704 flats across three residential projects in Dehradun. In Dehradun, everyone dreams of having a solid roof over their heads. However, due to the high costs of land and construction, millions of people are unable to realize this dream. To address this issue, the Uttarakhand Housing Development Council and MDDA are building around 16,000 affordable homes for families with low incomes. This is the first time since the state was formed that the Uttarakhand Housing Development Council is undertaking residential projects. The council is collaborating with private investors on 15 projects , which will include a total of 12,856 homes. The remaining five projects are being developed by related development authorities, which will provide an additional 3,104 homes. According to PC Dumka, the Additional Commissioner of Housing, 1,760 homes have already been constructed and handed over to beneficiaries through private partnerships, while 14,635 homes have been allocated. The goal is to complete all remaining projects by March 2025
Beneficiaries Can Get Homes for Just 2.5 Lakhs
Under this scheme, private investors build homes equipped with two rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom at a total cost of 6 lakhs. Beneficiaries receive 3.5 lakhs from various central and state government schemes, allowing them to acquire a home for just 2.5 lakhs through an easy home loan. The entire cost of land and construction is covered by the private investors. Families with an annual income of less than 3 lakhs are eligible for this scheme, and they must have been residents of Uttarakhand since before June 15, 2015
MDDA’s Three Projects
As part of this initiative, the MDDA has completed projects with 224 flats in Transport Nagar and 240 flats in Tarla Aamwala, while 240 flats in Dhaulas are expected to be ready by March 2025. According to Banshidhar Tiwari, the Vice Chairman of MDDA, the selection of beneficiaries for these projects has been done transparently, and keys to the flats will be handed over on time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the PM Housing Scheme with a focus on achieving the goal of Antyodaya which aims to provide permanent homes to homeless families. The Uttarakhand Housing Development Authority has played a significant role in achieving this objective.
