The problem of drooping of eyelids is caused by weakness of muscles or nerves.

Dropped eyelid, often also called ptosis, is a condition in which your upper eyelids start drooping. This can cause problems in your vision and some other problems.

This condition can be present from birth or can also be seen later. There are also treatment options available for this. If this condition is affecting your daily life, then you should consult an eye doctor.

This condition occurs when your levator muscle, the muscle that lifts the eyelids from your eyes, is not able to work properly. This can cause you trouble seeing or you can even lose your vision completely. It can affect one eye or both. It can have different types. Let’s know about this condition.

It usually has two types:

Congenital ptosis: This means that the child is born with this condition. There is some problem in the development of the levator muscle due to which you may have to face this condition.

Acquired ptosis: This condition is not present from birth but can trouble you later on. When your levator muscle becomes weak with time, then you may have to face this condition.

Feeling the need to rub your eyes excessively, loss of vision or in some cases complete loss of vision, feeling tired or pain around the eyes etc. are some of its symptoms.

Its causes depend on its type. Some children are born with this condition. In some people who have to face this condition later, there can be many reasons for this, such as weakening of the levator muscle due to some injury. Sometimes this condition can also be seen due to damage to the nerve controlling the muscles of the eyelid.
