India’s lowest score at home in 91 years of history

India’s first innings in the Bengaluru Test was reduced to 46 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma’s decision to bat first after winning the toss proved wrong. In the overcast condition, Team India’s batsmen fell like a pack of cards. Five batsmen of the team could not even open the account. These include Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. Rishabh Pant scored the highest 20 runs. At the same time, Yashasvi Jaiswal played an innings of 13 runs. Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring two runs and Jasprit Bumrah after scoring one run.

46 runs is the lowest score in Tests by any team in India. India broke the record set by New Zealand two years ago. In 2021, the Kiwi team was bundled out for 62 runs at Wankhede. This is India’s worst performance at home. 37 years ago i.e. in 1987, India scored 75 runs against West Indies in Delhi. India has been playing Test cricket in its country since 1933 and this is the lowest score of Team India in 91 years. India has failed to touch the 50 mark for the first time at home. 11 players could not score 50 runs together. 46 runs is also the lowest score of any team in Asia. In this case, India surpassed West Indies’ 53 runs against Pakistan in Faisalabad in 1986 and Pakistan’s 53 runs against Australia in Sharjah in 2002.

At the same time, this is also India’s worst score against New Zealand. Earlier in 1976, Team India scored 81 runs against the Kiwis in Wellington. This is India’s third lowest score in Tests. Earlier in 2020, the Indian team was reduced to 36 runs against Australia in Adelaide. At the same time, in 1974, Team India was all out for 42 runs against England at Lord’s. This is the 10th lowest score by anyone overall in Tests. Matt Henry took five wickets for New Zealand. With this, he also completed 100 wickets in Tests. At the same time, 23-year-old fast bowler William O’Rourke took four wickets. Tim Southee got one wicket.
