The Indian women’s team will face multiple-time champion Australia in the T20 World Cup on Sunday. This match will be a do or die situation for India in which it will have to register a big win to reach the semi-finals. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team started the campaign with a defeat against New Zealand, but it won the next two matches, which strengthened its chances of reaching the knockout round. However, Australia’s challenge is not going to be easy for India, but the team led by Alice Healy is struggling with injuries, which the Indian team can take advantage of.
Healy and Tyla were injured
Australia has six points from three matches and its net run rate is plus 2.786. Australia has secured entry into the semi-finals while India, New Zealand and Pakistan are in the race for the remaining spot. Defending champion Australia defeated Pakistan on Friday, but captain Alyssa Healy suffered a leg injury while fielding and fast bowler Tyla Vlaeminck dislocated her shoulder bone. It is difficult for her to play in Sunday’s match. If Healy does not play, Australia will have to find a new captain, wicketkeeper and opening batsman. Beth Mooney can do wicketkeeping, while vice-captain Tahlia McGrath can be given the captaincy.
