Last year, the Union Cabinet had approved the release of additional installment of dearness allowance and dearness relief on October 18. The rates of DA/DR came into effect from July 1, 2023. 48.67 lakh employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners of the Central Government had benefited. At present, DA/DR is being given at the rate of 50 percent. If there is an increase of four percent, then the rate of DA will become 54 percent.

Diwali was on October 24 that year, so the government had announced DA / DR in the last week of September. Last year Diwali was on November 12, so the government had announced the release of an additional installment of dearness allowance and dearness relief on October 18. In January 2024, when the DA rates were increased by four percent (likely), the dearness allowance had reached 50 percent.
