Bhopal. On the initiative of NITI Aayog, the Madhya Pradesh government included about 1 lakh gig platform workers working in the state in the category of unorganized workers in March 2024, as well as decided to give all the benefits of Sambal Yojana. Gig workers registration work is being done on the Sambal portal.
It is noteworthy that today the number of service workers of Amazon Flipkart, Zomato, Blinkit, Ola, Uber in the service sector, who deliver goods and provide services as per the wishes of the people in every house from big to small cities, is in lakhs. The Central Government had directed the NITI Aayog to take a decision regarding the interests of these workers.
More than 700 gig platform workers registered on Sambal portal
More than 700 gig workers have been registered on the Sambal portal sambal.mp.gov.in so far. As gig workers are becoming aware of this field, registration is also increasing. By joining the Sambal Yojana, gig workers will also be able to get the benefit of ex-gratia assistance and funeral under Sambal.
It is noteworthy that under the Sambal Yojana, a registered worker is provided financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh in case of death in an accident, Rs 2 lakh in case of normal death, Rs 2 lakh on permanent disability and Rs 1 lakh on partial disability. There is a provision of giving Rs 5 thousand as funeral assistance.
Gig platform workers include food supply/delivery services like Zomato, Swiggy, Eat Sure Food Panda etc., delivery boy/associate/delivery driver like Amazon, Flipkart, Big Basket, Zepto, Blinkit, Best Price, Metro, D-Mart etc., tele caller/call center associate, messenger/delivery (courier service service), electronic/home appliance service provider like Urban Company, House Joy, Reach You etc., cab-taxi drivers like Ola, Uber, Jugnoo etc., cargo driver (door to door supply), customer/complaint service operator, house keeping service like Urban Clap, House Joy, Reach You etc., transcription writer/associate, freelance app/online educators, viewers (for multiple employers), freelance software developer/operator (working for multiple employers), freelance graphic designer (for multiple employers) and freelance travel Includes attendants, guides and related workers.
