Raipur Municipal Corporation Becomes the First Urban Body in the Country to Develop Fast EV Charging Stations in PPP Mode with PSU.

The Raipur Municipal Corporation has become the first urban body in the country to undertake the development of fast EV charging stations in collaboration with the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Indian Oil Corporation through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The Raipur Municipal Corporation is set to establish fast EV charging stations at ten different parking locations, providing convenient fast charging facilities for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. This initiative is being carried out with the involvement of companies such as Tata and Ather Power, which will enable rapid charging for vehicles at various locations across the city.

In line with this, under the directives of Raipur District Collector Dr. Gaurav Kumar Singh, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Abinash Mishra, in the presence of Executive Engineer Mr. Imran Khan, conducted a site inspection to review the proposed fast EV charging stations under the PPP mode. The Commissioner has instructed the speedy completion of the project after necessary discussions in the public interest. In accordance with the Chhattisgarh Government’s public welfare objectives and under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri. Vishnu Deo Sai and guidance of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Urban Administration and Development Mr. Arun Sao, the Raipur Municipal Corporation is working to operationalize fast four-wheeler EV charging stations in various locations in the capital city Raipur as a significant public convenience achievement.

It is noteworthy that fast four-wheeler EV charging stations are currently operational at four locations in the capital city: the Municipal Corporation Headquarters parking area, Interstate Bus Stand at Bhatagaon, the multi-level parking in front of the Collectorate and the old bus stand multi-level parking near Jaystambh Chowk. From April to July 2024, a total of 3499.17 units of electricity have been consumed at these EV charging stations. The revenue from these stations is approximately ₹10.50 per unit, providing significant earnings to the Raipur Municipal Corporation. The consumption of electricity at the EV charging stations has increased by about 30% each month, indicating a positive response from citizens and reflecting encouraging trends.

Executive Engineer Mr. Imran Khan reported that in April 2024, the four EV charging stations consumed 378.83 units of electricity. In May 2024, the consumption was 701.24 units. In June 2024, it was 1050.10 units, and in July 2024, it reached 1369 units. Over the four months from April to July 2024, the total electricity consumption at these four EV charging stations was 3499.17 units, with revenue generated at a rate of ₹10.50 per unit for the Raipur Municipal Corporation.
